Well.

Here is the next song <that doesn’t have techno pop included> that will zoom up the charts. The band is Morning Parade and the song is Headlights.

If you like Scars on 45 or the first Keane cd you will love these guys. I believe they recently toured with Civil Twilight which seems like a perfect pairing. Side by side you may not have even known someone else was on the stage. The difference from Civil Twilight?

From different countries and Morning Parade may be slightly more melodic and slightly less ethereal.

The band has had the attention of European audiences for a few years.

For their debut cd, Morning Parade recorded in Blur / Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn’s 13 Studios in London <and they do have some of that Blur-pop sound>.

Band members describe themselves:

“My parents were into pop, it’s always in the back of my mind. Then, when I grew-up, it was all the Britpop and indie. You cannot deny who you are, I am not afraid of a melody.”

They toured US for the first time earlier this year. When they made their first U.S. appearance, it was when they opened for The Kooks in front of a sold-out New York crowd, hardly anyone in the room knew who the band was, after their performance, and everyone in the room was asking who they were.

Ok.

The bad news. The band does not do enough to separate itself from bands like Keane or a host of others who have a similar sound. Mind you, there are some very listenable songs, and many of the songs have interesting addictive components … but as noted earlier, they don’t seem particularly noteworthy, or at the very least anything that hasn’t been done better elsewhere.

This is not to say their album is a bad listen. In fact it is a nice listen for a rainy day drive. It’s just the substance is not quite up to the style and sound … ah … but I will add “yet.” They have potential.
