miranda lee richards

Miranda lee Richards is an American singer and songwriter. While it seems like she has been around forever she has only issued 2 cds.  Almost 10 years apart.  The first in 2001 ‘the herethereafter’ was awesome.  Top to bottom one of the best cds of 2001.  And then she spent like the last 10 years backing up a number of singers and touring but not doing her own stuff.  And then she finally issued another cd ‘light of x.’  another awesome cd.

Gosh.  I hope I don’t have to wait until 2020 for the next. But. I imagine I will continuously on random  occasions do a music search just to keep tabs on something new.

Anyway.  The Herethereafter included original compositions such as “The Beginner” and “The Long Goodbye” as well as a cover of The Rolling Stones 1967 single “Dandelion.”

Here is “The Long Goodbye”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufTOYGgukyM&feature=relmfu

About her music?

“Courtney Taylor from the Dandy Warhols calls my genre ‘Pixie Fairy Dust Chick Music,’” Miranda Lee Richards laughs, from her home in Los Angeles. “But I think another fitting description for Light of X might be ‘Psychedelic Chamber Folk Rock.’”

Me? The Pixie Fairy Dust comment made me laugh out loud. I imagine I would use “ethereal” and “thoughtful” and “”pensively light” as descriptors.

About her?
Richards grew up in San Francisco, the daughter of Ted and Teresa Richards, stars of the underground comics revolution. Her father created The 40 Year Old Hippie and her mother was one of the founding editors and contributors of Wimmin’s Comix in the 1970’s.

Miranda said about growing up with these kind of parents: “Growing up, I got the message that if you do what you love to do, money will follow, just not a lot of it. It was a very Bohemian upbringing to put it lightly.” Ok. Sounds oddly fun to me.

She took up modeling after high school and moved to Paris to continue her modeling career but hated it, moved back to San Francisco and started learning how to play the guitar. And eventually started writing songs and, then, well, there you go.  Two awesome cds and a career touring and singing.

Here are some samples of the rest of her stuff:
