============
The moral of the Tortoise and the Hare shouldn’t be “slow and steady wins the race.” The Tortoise only won because the Hare kept getting distracted. The moral should instead be “stay on task.”

70% of what comes out of my mouth is dumb or embarrassing 🙂

So.
You are probably wondering what the hell these two tumblr quotes have in common.
Well. If you accept the fact 70% of what we say is, well, maybe not dumb or embarrassing but rather wrong or wasted words I could argue that the 70% distracts us from winning the race.
Simplistically I, personally, accept the fact that 70% of what I say is a distraction from what is important.
That doesn’t mean I can discern the 70% from the 30% all the time but it does mean I am constantly aware of the fact that 70% of what I say is most likely wasted breath <and 30% is actually something worth a shit>.
Now.
This doesn’t mean I am full of fluff nor does it mean I am reliant on bullshit to get me through the day. It just means that 70% of what I say … and what I believe most people say … is useless. It is just fluff in the day.
Ok. It is the distraction in the day.
I say this because it matters. Why? Because if I truly believe in the tortoise and the hare ‘moral’ then I am not only seeking some slow & steadiness but 70% of the slow & steadiness is an utter waste of time. So not only am I moving more slowly but I am also using some of the moving energy on … well … nothing.
I imagine you have two alternatives if you read this and even slightly agree.
The first is to maintain the moral of the story – “slow & steady wins the race” – and recognize 70% of what you say is wrong and try and not be distracted by as much of the 70% as possible. The conclusion to this? You are still slow & steady just maybe not as slow.
The second is to say “screw being a tortoise … I am going to be a hare” and recognize 70% of what you say is wrong and try and not be distracted by as much of the 70% as possible. The conclusion to this? You are moving faster, as a hare, and even faster because you are at least not completely distracted by the 70%.
Look.
Not everyone is comfortable living Life as a hare and I can honestly say I am not suggesting everyone should. Everyone should choose how to run their race in Life and business.
However.
I will suggest everyone, hares & tortoises, would benefit by recognizing the massive amount of self-imposed distractions which inevitably slow you down in whatever type of race you elect to run.
Just think about it.
My 70% is not researched nor is it factual. But I would guess that a large % of everything we say is wrong or possibly slightly misguided or just wasted words & breath. If that is true … then … well … that is a shitload of distraction we are dealing with.
I imagine my point here is it is worth your while to ponder your own biases and attempt to shed the 70% as much as possible. UI imagine my second point would be it is worth your while to assume 70% if what you do is flawed in some way & it makes no difference if you go fast, or slow, as long as you adapt to the 70% wrongness as it appears. So. Well. Why not be a hare then?
