about unhealthy eating 1, 2 & 3

This is the first of a three part post on unhealthy eating (and by extension obesity).

I wrote them awhile back and we are just getting around to posting them. I wrote these having experience with anti smoking campaigns (you will see why that is relevant in part 2), experience with marketing of food (good stuff and crappy stuff), marketing of health insurance and experience with a variety of behavioral choice type industries.

In addition.

This topic interests me. And I believe it is an important issue for us to figure out how to deal with here in the United States (although I would envision aspects of the situation here is a precursor to a global issue).

One thing before I begin. In general I don’t believe food manufacturers or sellers own the unhealthy eating responsibility (as long as options are available to people to choose from). I believe (just as I do with tobacco and cigarettes and alcohol) that anyone can sell whatever they want to sell with restrictions to age. I believe the purchase responsibility lies within the individual. the-eating-spectrumIn other words personal purchase is a choice. Just as I believe eating is a choice.

With that. Here is part 1 of the series.
