Family of the Year song

Family of the Year Hero

let me go

I don’t wanna be your hero

I don’t wanna be a big man

I just wanna fight with everyone else

Family of the Year

—–

Ok.

So there has been this nifty song that has been easing in and out of the rotation on the cool new alternative music station where I live.

Every time it comes on I love it.

And every time it comes on the radio I wonder why it isn’t played more often or on the more popular stations.

As I wondered … I did some research trying to find the song and who the hell plays it.
The song is Hero.

The band is Family of the Year.
And … well … the song, and band, has been around for a while.

Yup.

Family of the Year is an American indie rock band based in Los Angeles which has been around since <insert “gulp!” here> 2009.

<yikes … i thought i knew my music …>

Regardless. Not sure I have ever heard of them before I heard their song on the radio – Hero.

The song is indicative of their style … they use a nice melodic male/female vocal mix of harmonies with an American alt-folk feel … and some easy but interesting  lyrics .. easy to listen to and easy to hear again and again <and not get tired>.

Boyhood

Boyhood

“Hero” was used in the 2012 motion picture Thanks for Sharing and the trailers for 2014 film Boyhood, as well as during the film itself.

Additionally, it has been featured in several television appearances, including Girls, Underemployed, World of Jenks, Couples Therapy, Degrassi: The Next Generation and the 2014 Korean drama It’s Okay, That’s Love.
Here is the song:

Note.

I haven’t seen Boyhood.

Apparently Boyhood is a movie that explores growing up and what it means to exist within a family while trying to find yourself and the challenges that come with being yourself.

The videos ? <there are actually two of them>

Well.

Take the song, its lyrics and style, show a person growing up really quickly … age 12 years in a just a few minutes … and you certainly have a heightened emotional experience crammed into a music video.

Anyway.
One last song.
In 2012, the song “Everytime” was featured on the final episode of Weeds.
