small brains are born again

Let me begin this with: It’s not the size that matters, it’s how you use it.

But.

This is frickin’ hilarious.

A study of believer’s brain, based on scans such as this image of a normal brain, found born again Christians had a smaller brain than mainline Protestants, Catholics and those with no religious identity. Duke University Medical Center.

Of course born again people are coming out of the woodwork suggesting the study was done by ‘religion haters’ and devil worshipers.

Please.

Will these people just get a frickin’ grip?

So.  The study.

The study, which examined the hippocampus region of a normal brain, found that Protestants who did not have a “born again” experience had significantly more gray matter than either those who reported a life-changing religious experience, Catholics, or unaffiliated older adults. Said another way? Born again Christians have a smaller brain.

The study, funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Templeton Foundation, included at least two MRI measurements of the hippocampus region of 268 adults between 1994 and 2005. Oh. And just in case someone wants to attack the study as being anti religious the study was done with regard to depression and it just so happens that in looking for correlations this rose to a high coincidence.

Protestants are cheering in the street. They seem to have larger brains than born-again Christians, Roman Catholics and the religiously unaffiliated.

Everyone else is laughing his or her ass off.

As I laugh my own ass off I would like to remind everyone of how I began this post.

It ain’t the size.  Its how you use it.

Brains are a reflection of that statement.

Ok. I admit. Most born again Christians do drive me crazy with their dogged persistence in trite diatribes hidden in “god’s word.” But.  That doesn’t mean they aren’t smart. Or even smarter than the average bear (Winnie the Pooh reference).

Anyone who uses his or her brain has my respect. Regardless of their brain’s size or their religious affiliation.

Regardless.

This announcement made me laugh.
